merrypaws approached us about a size meme and we've decided to take it a step further and you're invited!

:bulletblue:What: Compilation and Size Chart for Each Aery :bulletblue:What To Tell Us: Tell us if your mainland gryphon is the average size of a lion, slightly smaller, or slightly larger (remember, all mainlanders are roughly the size of a lion regardless of cat or bird species).  Tell us if your Tookie Islander is the size of a house cat, slightly larger, or any size smaller. :bulletblue:When: As soon as possible or convenient. :bulletblue:Where: Note the community with a PNG (transparent background) of your adult gryphon roughly facing to the side.  The main images on your character sheets would be perfect for this. :bulletblue:Purpose: To have a compilation for each aery of it's inhabitants and their rough sizes so if people want to include other members in their illustrations they know what size they are.  And it would just look cool to have all these pretty gryphons compiled together, standing side by side! :bulletblue:Example: Here is an example of what the compilations would look like (but the Tookie Islanders and each aery will be separated out.)

We'd love as many as gryphons to participate as possible, so please let us know if you have any questions and we look forward to your submissions!

I noticed that as more and more characters get added, the 'meter stick' in the size charts gets really far away @.@ maybe a grid in the background would be a useful thing to have? Just musing aloud.

Have you any program currently in which to do art? Photoshop is certainly not a necessity, and there are even a few free programs about. A non functioning tablet I suppose could be more of a difficulty if you desire to do digital work, but not an impossibility. Mouse work can produce some lovely results, with care.
Alternatively, you could work with traditional media instead, and scan the work in to submit. There are a few other people who will be submitting their PNGs in this fashion.

Aw, I am sorry then I am afraid you may be out of luck. Perhaps if you have someone who could make the PNG for you? I can think of nothing else... :/

I'm pretty much computer-program illiterate as a traditional artist. What would be the best way of going about having a transparent background? My brother has some version of photoshop, and I have photoshop elements on my desktop. I already save all scans as PNGs anyway.

It's my goal to get crackin' on my gryph's ref this month, and I finally have some time off from work coming up where I may actually get a chance at it ^^;

Hmm, you could probably find some tutorials kicking around, which would probably be better than my rambling explanation, but I can give you the basics.

Make sure you create your art on a highly contrasting background, plain white paper works, no background obviously. Scan like normal. Go into Photoshop with your scan, create a new blank layer underneath your scan. You can enhance the contrast by lightening the image a bit, so what is already close to white (ie. the whole backdrop) becomes REALLY REALLY white. In the layers window, go to the Channels tab, and there is a button at the bottom with a dotted circle symbol. Clicking this selects all the white in your image (ie everything you want to get rid of!). If it also selects some white in your drawing, you can manually deselect those areas so you do not delete them. Anyways, delete all the white you have selected around your character, and crop to the size of your character. The layer you created underneath is transparent. Save as PNG, and you are done! Alternatively, if you can use the magic select or magnetic lasso tool to select all the white outside your drawing. There are many ways of doing this.

Alternatively, you could probably send this to one of us if you do not want to do this yourself... xD
It is good to know how to do some of these things though I have found, especially if you do a lot of traditional art.

This is such a great idea; I wish I'd had a size comparison chart for Kiya's last few challenges. I'm in. I shall contribute images for Kiya, Valcaur, and Chawelh. I guess we tell you in the note what size they are?

We need an image of your gryphon that has a transparent background in PNG format.

And you need to say if they are smaller than average, larger than average, or average size.

Oooh a'right.
But i've also drawn both of my Gryphons in a size chart, will that help? I can still give you a transparent PNG format picture of both of them.

Aaaahm what about those of us who cannot make transparent .png files? I can't do this magic digital thing so I'd have to paint a Cey and then send her to somebody who can voodoo her into magical computer things.

Send away, just try to make the background very very distinct from Cey so it's easy to cut out.

White gryphon on a white background. This will require more painting. I shall stick her in a void of grey and declare it a Very Big Rock.

Just to the side, really, doesn't matter what direction because we can easily flip the image if need be.

Rule of thumb for comparison charts is that figures typically face the left, smallest to largest, as that is usually how the human eye and brain naturally read text and images. :)
